Upcoming Special Event:
10.30.09: HALLOWEEN DOUBLE FEATURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (at 5pm)
Updates:
FFM is undergoing a lot of changes this semester! We are going to be combining with Latent Image to reform "Film Arts Society" as one group, with each group still acting independently within the umbrella of FAS. There will be co-presidents, co-vice presidents and so-on, so it will still remain independent groups but with an overarching title uniting them both. Latent Image and FFM go hand in hand, and we are all really excited for the merger.
We're also going to be doing the screenings a little differently. We're still going to have group-nominated and democratically decided screenings, but we're going to space them out and do them every other week. On the other weeks, we're going to be screening films that the Film Arts Society board is going to choose, with a theme running through the semester.
This semester we're starting off with "Essential Directors, Essential Films" for our theme of pre-decided screenings. Those are happening as follows:
NAUSICAA by Hayao Miyazaki, 10.26.09
VIDEODROME by David Cronenberg, 11.02.09
WILD AT HEART by David Lynch, 11.16.09
SOLYARIS by Andrei Tarkovsky, 11.30.09
FUDOH by Takashi Miike, 12.14.09
Next semester we will probably carry on with that theme, since there are a lot of directors that we wanted to include and didn't get to.
The voting/nomination process will still happen, but only on weeks where we are screening the films that have been decided on by voting.
In the future, we hope that pre-decided screenings will be decided by the Film Arts Society Executive Board. Right now that is just me (Kallie), Kyle, Amanda, and LJ (from Latent Image). We want to have more people though, which is another thing we will vote on.
